Chapter Chat 7 - Year 3/4, Week 3: Tasks & Questions

Week 3, 27th February - 3rd March - Chapters 9-12

TASKS- Choose from any of the following:
1. Draw Prince Lulath (the person Celie bumps into when returning from the Spyglass tower) and complete this sentence...I think that Prince Lulath is a good/bad character because.
2. WRITING TASKS: Pretend that you were part of the crowd, watching Rolf’s coronation as king. Write a short recount detailing your thoughts and experiences.

3. Write Who am I clues for the characters in the story so far.

4. Design the cloak that Celie discovers in the Spyglass tower. List or write about it’s special powers.

5. Create a map of the passage and new room that Celie discovers in Chapter 10. Use your imagination and prompts from the story to guide you.

6. Design a poster advertising the coronation of the Rolf, the new King Glower the eightieth.


7. VOCABULARY TASK: Find the meaning for the following words. Specimen pg64, gallantry pg65, effusively pg65, disposal pg66, insult, pg67, regents pg 68, tutelage pg70, verge pg73, noble pg76, dawdle pg76, triumphantly pg85, siblings pg86, assemblage pg87, supplicant pg87
8. Make a T chart on these two characters:

Chapter Chat 7 Year 3/4 Week 2

Chapter Chat 7: Y5/6, W4 - Tasks & Questions

W4 - Chapters 24-30

TASKS - Choose from the following

1. ART - Describe and draw the transformation of Kate Barlow into Kissin' Kate Barlow. TWINKL TEMPLATE. If you want you could also make a 'Wanted Poster' for Kissin' Kate Barlow.

2. Stanley Yelnats is an example of a name that can be read forwards and backwards (Palindromes). Can you think of any others? Can you make up some of your own? Display them using some fancy lettering.

3. Great lake design and future predictions - Draw a picture of Camp Green Lake one hundred years ago and draw a picture one years from the end of the story. What will be different about them? TWINKL TEMPLATE

4. RESEARCH - Stanley's father is an inventor. Although it is said that an inventor must have intelligence, perseverance, and a lot of luck, Stanley's father never seems to have such luck. Research one of the following inventors: Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, and the Wright brothers. How did luck play a role in their inventions? 

5. HANDS ON - Sam had an onion juice that was said to heal as many people as anything the doctor did. Create your own recipe or bottle. Give the results the juice gives as well as any side effects. TWINKL TEMPLATE

6. VOCABULARY - Find the meaning for the following words: Cantaloupe p104, Sparingly p116, Vile p118, Barren p127, Feeble p135.

7. WRITING TASK - If you were Stanley, and if you wrote in a journal about what you did every day, write about this day: “Dear Diary, today when I woke up and went to breakfast, I saw Mr. Sir’s face. .”

8. MINECRAFT TASK - Create Sam, his boat and Mary Lou on Minecraft.

Chapter Chat 7 - Year 3/4, Week 2: Tasks & Questions



Week 2 20th - 24th February, Chapters 5-8


TASKS- Choose from any of the following:

1. Draw either the Vhervhish or the Grath ambassador. What do you think they look like? You may want to draw both!

2. Draw a picture of your favourite and least favourite characters. Explain why you like and dislike them. 
3. Make your own Vhervhish phrase book, what are some phrases that your could include? Don’t forget to write the english translation underneath.
4. Draw or make the wax tablet.
5. WRITING TASK: Write a menu for the feast that would feed the guests after the funeral. What dishes, foods will you include?
6.Create a poster, slideshow or movie with at least 10 facts about castles.
7. Make a poster or chart displaying some of the tricky terminology / vocabulary used in the story so far. Perhaps write a sentence for each or draw or write the meaning of each word - e.g mollified.

W3 - Chapters 16-23

TASKS - Choose from the following

1. ART - Draw a picture of the Warden or even better create a Character Shield of her. TWINKL TEMPLATE

2. Make a Kahoot with at least 20 questions about the story. Add to it as the story goes on.

3. Make an Acrostic Poem using the letters CAMP GREEN LAKE. 

4. RESEARCH - Stanley’s family is cursed all because of his “no-good-dirty rotten pig stealing great great grandfather.” Find out about your ancestors and create your own family tree.

5. HANDS ON - In Chapter 20, the Warden slaps Mr Sir across the face with her nail polish that has snake venom in it. Although it does not kill Mr Sir, it hurts him. Your task is to design some makeup that has an evil twist. Draw and label your item. TWINKL TEMPLATE

6. VOCABULARY TASK - Find the meaning for the following words: Intently p73, Presumably p74, Calloused p80, Writhed p91, Defiance p96.

7. WRITING TASK - Stanley's great, great grandfather was rescued from God's Thumb. Pretend you are Stanley's great, great grandfather and write a letter to your family, after you were rescued. TWINKL TEMPLATE
