Chapter Chat 5: W1 - Tasks & Questions

W1 - Chapters 1-9

TASKS - Choose from the following

1. Draw a picture of the twins, Fred and Ellie. Try to make your picture a scene from the story (It could be Fred playing Football, Fred sitting in the dustbin or Ellie playing video games). 

2. Make an anti-bullying slogan and poster!

3. Make up your own diet! Tell us what you are allowed to eat for the week! It can be fun!

4. The mystery man did not want to answer questions. Make up five questions you could ask the mystery man.

5. MINECRAFT TASK - Create the bullies, Isla and Morris. Add as much detail as possible!

Chapter Chat 4: W3 - Tasks & Questions

W3 - Chapters 8-10

TASKS - Choose from the following

Draw a picture of Fudge's X-Ray at the hospital. 

2. Draw a picture of Fudge on the Toddle-Bike. Even better, make your own Toddle-Bike commercial!

3. Make a chart with the following headings: Peter was angry when? Peter was jealous when? Peter was embarrassed when? Peter was excited when? Peter was nervous when? Peter was responsible when?

4. Teach students the song “I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly.” Ask students how this song compares to Fudge (he ate a turtle). Have them write a humorous version of the song starring Fudge entitled “I Know a Small Kid Who Swallowed a Turtle.” Have students consider the food chain. What would Fudge need to eat next to catch the turtle? 

5. Make a short movie/trailer/poster advertising the book.

6. Research the author Judy Blume. What other books has she written?

The Person Controller - Reading Schedule

Hey everyone, here's the reading schedule for Chapter Chat 5! (Term 4, Weeks 1-7) The book we are going to read is 'The Person Controller' by David Baddiel.

Week 1, 10-14th October, Chapters 1-9

Week 2, 17-21st October, Chapters 10-17

Week 3, 24-28th October, Chapters 18-25

Week 4, 31-4th November, Chapters 26-33

Week 5, 7-11th November, Chapters 34-42

Week 6, 14-18th November, Chapters 43-51

Week 7, 21-25th November, Chapters 52-57

The chapters are not very long and I envisage it will take about 5-10 minutes a day to get through them.

Chapter Chat 5

Hey everyone, I would like to announce that Chapter Chat 5 is going to go ahead in term 4! 

Now the next big question is what book are we going to read? Well after lots of research, reading and discussion I have decided to chose 'The Person Controller' by David Baddiel.

This book is a little different and unheard of but I think the kids will love it! Here's the reasons that I have picked it:

- It's a great boys book

- It's new and modern and the kids will be able to relate to a lot of the text
- It's fast paced and has an interesting storyline
- It's based around Christmas time which we will be leading up to
- Not a lot of people have read it so it will be new to them
- It's introducing everyone to a new author

The book is aimed at 8-11 year olds. So it's definitely a more mature book from Chapter Chat's previous books. My class are Y3 and I think they will enjoy it. If you are worried about the age range I suggest you read it yourself first.

Chapter Chat 4: W2 - Tasks & Questions

W2 - Chapters 5-7

TASKS - Choose from the following

1. Create a poster with 10 facts about Turtles. Draw a picture of Dribble to go with it.

2. Draw a picture of Fudge with his two front teeth missing!

3. Make a Venn Diagram comparing Peter and Fudge. What is similar and different about the two? 

4. Break your class into committees and make posters about Transportation. Each group could do a different aspect of transportation. Present to the class!
